Hi, this is Kapinozuka. This time, I would like to talk about nickname for trains. Actually there are many trains having their own nicknames, which show their look, capbility, historical background in the society, and so on. This time, let's see basic cases. Bentobako(Lunchbox) This is the name of the first generation of 7000 Type electric train from Tokyu Corporation. It was the all-stainless-steel train, which was designed through technical cooperation with an American company. This type of train ran for the Tokyu Toyoko Line, the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line, and so on in its day. At that time silver-colored electric train was quite rare and it looked like a aluminam bentobako (lunchbox) for the Japanese. Tokyu Series 7000 (4-Car Set) GREENMAX released a N-scale train KIT for this type of train. The one in the photo is modified and appeared as 7700. The real 7000 was transfered to various lines and could work on the second or third stage of its life. Darumasan This name is for Type 800 made by Keikyu Corporation. (For details (Only in Japanese language) : Teikyu Train Guide) Its body is red-colored with while lines and looks edge-round. Also this train design is mainly used for local train of Keikyu Line. Keikyu Type 800 (6-Car Set) After Keikyu Type 800, Keihin Express Series 2000 Two doors (8-Car Set) having 2 doors in a car came into being and its design also looked like Darumasan. Since then, train designs of Keikyu Line maily red-colored with white lines have continued to appear. Keikyu New Type 1000 Stainless Model (4-Car Set) (w/Motor) (Model Train) There are some Darumasans made of stainless steel. They can be called Cyborg Daruma but I've never seen train fans calling them so. Green Frog This is the nickname of the first generation of Tokyu series 500. Since its color is similar to the color of frog, it was called that. Tokyu The First Series 5000 (5-Car Set) *Limited Model Unfortunately this item is released as a limited model, it is very difficult to get a new one. Gakunan Railway 5000 Series (Green) 2-Car Set This was released a couple years ago by MICRO ACE. Since it is two car train, it is very easy for you to enjoy running this item. On the other hand, GREENMAX released a kit called "Tokyu Series 5000 (2-Car Set)" but it is quite difficult to build this item. For your information, after it retired from Tokyu Line, it was transfered to other private railway companies throughout Japan. Each company distinctively painted it. Red-colored one is called red frog, and another one which was assembled with a driver's cabin, which is still working in Kumamoto prefecture, is called flat frog. Shortened green frog could be famous among Japanese young people because it is displayed near the statue of HachiKo in front of Shibuya Station. Tokyu Series 5000 with 6 Doors Car Basic 6 Cars Formation Set w/Motor Car (Basic 6 Cars Set) Also the second generation of series 5000, which today works for the Tokyu Den-en-toshi Line, must be featured here. It has the same name of the first generation and its whole design also looks like the first generation. This is the very Cyborg Green Frog, isn't it ? We are sorry for introducing only face in profile. Since, however, we have recently been trying to show face in front on our official website, please take your time for enjoying our website. |
