Year 2001 has gone by a long time ago, we are already in the year 2010... but we can't really tell if space development has made much progress since Apollo landed on the moon. So yeah, Tomeko here. Hi everyone. In this particular movie, things were supposed to be like this in the year 2001... The Moon Bus ![]() Here is a machine that appears in a Sci-fi movie directed by Stanley Kubrick, "2001: A Space Odyssey". By the name of Moon Bus, it appears on the moon surface in the space exploration scene, and I remember the overwhelming silence was just stunning. This movie apparently is highly rated by people into this kinda stuff, as having high consideration of scientific theories and stuff, but I personally found the computer that appeared in the film, HAL9000, to be my favorite part. It's the kind of cutie that takes revenge on the human race by cutting off the life support function of the cold sleep pods. It's interesting to see that the idea of machines going against humans has already been around at this stage. If you express this in a moe kinda way, im sure it would be something like [Yandere]. Go look it up if you wanna know what that means, btw. The movie itself was shot in the year 1968, so this is a film from like over 40years ago (!!). Back then, there were no convenient stuff called CG, but I think its still cool even if you saw it now. Let's take a break from the chatting. This kit had been put on sale a year after the release of the film, 1969, and apparently the level of reproduction of the machines were top notch... An ancient kit like this gaining such a high reputation is very rare, but its understandable if you take a look at the image below. ![]() The details on the supports, with all those mechanical parts condensed and concentrated there. The stylish machine design these days are nice, but this is nice on its own, you can sense the nostalgia and human-ness in the design. So that's the masterpiece model kit there, but unfortunately with trouble such as the company going bust and the metal mold being lost, they were unable to make any more, turning this item into a legend. But, that legend has been revived this time by Mobius Model......! So yeah. I ended up discussing the movie more than the moon bus itself, but those that liked [2001], or into Sci-fi plastic models, this is for you! I personally preferred the [Discovery], but unfortunately nothing of the sort came up when I ran a search on the Hobby Search site. Dissapointment! Anyway, that's it for today. Hope to see you next week. By Tomeko, who dreams of living in sace with HAL. ~Trivial Matter~ I found a screensaver by the name of HAL9000. Its amazing in many ways... |
