Good evening, Kapinozuka here. We are proud to announce, this weeks No.1 Odd Train is...... *Drum roll* ![]() Kiya 95 series, "Doctor Tokai"!! We received the new product guide from Micro Ace for Jun~Aug, so we have started their reservations, and I found a very odd train in them! And that is this Kiya 95 series. Kiya 95 series "Doctor Tokai" DR1 formation after improvement (3-car set) ![]() Kiya 95 series "Doctor Tokai" DR2 formation (3-car set) ![]() At a glance, there is nothing strange about this train, but it doesn't have a destination plate, nor doors for passengers to get on. And, all the windows have their blind pulled closed. If you look veeery carefully, you might notice that there are something strange about it. This train, Kiya 95 series has an alias of "Dr. Tokai". It is a Synthesized Inspection Car, designed to test the electric circuit, communication, rail, and signals while running. So basically, it checks to see if the train can run safely on the rail. As it doesn't let passengers on, only Those who managed to see one are lucky people. (although its up to the person to decide if they think this is lucky...) There is already an image of the prototype model printed on the Micro Ace poster, and this is what caught my attention. ![]() The searchlight turns on! This searchlight is used to check the status of the rail while it runs. It's surprising, as it can be switched on even on N-scale. There has been a JR East Synthesized Inspection Car by Micro Ace on sale in N-scale before. And right after its release, there was an article on search light customization, in a Railway Magazine. It might be interesting to have a lit search light on something that normally wouldn't be lit. And it seems that Micro Ace has taken in that idea and added this function, I reckon. That's some good work there, Micro Ace. By Kapinozuka - Today's Railway Trivia: "Ya" This is one of the notations used to identify a formation, and this one means "Servicing car". In other words, it basically says that this car is used by the staff. So any car with "YA" in their formation identifier is used for specific purposes, such as test car, training car, prototype car etc. |
