50th All Japan Mokei Hobby Show 2010 Report<br /> [Railway Models – Newly Announced Items Part 2]
Hello, Kapinozuka here.
It’s been almost 2 weeks since the Hobby Show finished, but this is continuing with the newly announced item reports for the railway models.

Now, due to some circumstances, a portion of the exhibited photos have been edited.

Kato

Products scheduled for release in Spring 2011
- Series E231-500 Yamanote Line Platform Door Compatible Car Set (2-car)
Series E231-500 Yamanote Line Platform Door Compatible Car Set
Good bye, 6-doored cars
The latest middle cars compatible with the platform doors
Saha E231 Nos.4600, Nos.600!

Allow me to explain about the actual train.

At present, the Series E231 Nos.500 of the JR Yamanote Line are in the process of replacing the 6-doored cars that were used for the 10th car and 7th car, to the newly produced 4-doored cars.

This is related to the installation works of the platform doors (mobile platform fence), and with various issues such as the width of the platform doors and the trains of Keihin Tohoku Line running on the Yamanote Line due to disturbances in the train schedule diagram, and have to match their door height as well etc. the 6-doored cars had become unwanted.

Even the oldest of the series E231-500 had only been used for about 8 years since production, but as there are nowhere for these unneeded 6 -door cars to go, it seems that they will be disposed.

Anyway, the new 4-door cars that are to replace the 6-door cars,
they are the two car types, Series Saha E231-4600 and Series Saha E231-600.
And what is interesting about these are that although it is the E231 series, they have used the same parts from E233 series at some places, creating a design that had been mixed between the E231 series and E233 series.

And Kato will be turning this new 4-door cars as an N-scale model as a 2-car set.
The numbers 600 looks almost the same as existing car, but the numbers 4600 has irregular placement of windows that could be the result of matching the leader car of series E233 (Keihin Tohoku Line), causing it to have its characteristics stand out.

And, a similar model N-scale model is also scheduled for production by Tomix too.

Slated for release this winter
- 20-874 Unitrack Multi-line Track: Track within the station Set V15
- 20-875 Unitrack Multi-line Track: Extention for track within the station
Unitrack Multi-line Track Internal Station Tracks

We tend to look at the announcements related to the train cars themselves, but there was an announcement for a new track product as well.
(could it possibly be announced at sales meetings already?)

The Kato Unitrack Multi-Line Track series only had tracks for the normal multi-tracks.
However, a multi-line isn’t just placed at the areas where the train pass by.

Any station that has island type platforms just means they had stretched the space between the lines and had set a platform in that space, and this time, a product will be released that will enable you to produce just that!

And of course, to match any extended platforms, there is extension rails also scheduled for release too.

Tomix

The Kiha58 [Sakyu] re-debuts with the renewal!
And production for model has been decided!

- JR Series Kiha50 Express Diesel Car (Sakyu) Set
JR Series Kiha50 Express Diesel Car Sakyu Set

The renewal of series Kiha58 in N-Scale is underway, but as a part of that, an advance notice for the express train [Sakyu] had been announced for production.
The previous product had been released in year 2005, and had been out of stock for a long time.

This express [Sakyu] is a train that links Okayama with Tottori, connecting the Sanyo side and the San’in side of the Chugoku Region.
This train had already been abolished, but it was operated with the Series Kiha58 Renewal car during its last years.
The coloring of white, blue, and purple was very fresh.

What was interesting is the [Type Kiroha28 Nos.100] that were connected as the middle car.
The Green Car of series Kiha 58 are the [Type Kiro28], but to correspond to the situation of the Green Car passenger ratio, they had created the customized car [Kiroha], having divided half the car as normal car and the other half as Green Car.

There was one Type Kiroha28 car in the Shikoku region during the JNR era, but it was completely wiped out for the time, with the removal of express trains and green cars.

The JR West had customized the 4 cars of Type Kiro28 to use for the [Sakyu], and had skipped the production numbers to the number them in the 100s (No.101~104).
It is different to the Type Kiroha28 that it once was, could be due to the difference in the period of customization and the cars used.

Now, the Series Kiha40 old JR Hokkaido Coloring in the right side of the photo, we have started taking reservations for them already.
- [Limited Edition] Kiha40 Diesel Car Set (Kiha48- 300 & Kiha40-100 & Old JR Hokkaido Color) (3-Cat Set)
- Kiha40-100 (Old JR Hokkaido Color/M)

The new item of the Third Sector, Nagaragawa Railway Type Nagara300 will be added!
Production for model has been decided!

- Nagaragawa Railway Type Nagara300
Nagaragawa Railway Type Nagara300

The Type Nagara300 of Nagaragawa Railway is a light diesel locomotive with standard body, aimed for the private rails, known as the LE-DC Series of Fuji Heavy Industries.
There are companies in various parts of Japan that uses the same type cars, and they are given different format names for each company, as well as their own coloring, making them a very enjoyable cars to see.

The Fuji Heavy Industries had already withdrawn from the railway car manufacturing business, but the Niigata Transys has been passed down with the technology for the LE-DE Series, so there are still cars close to them, being manufactured.

There was the Tarumi Railway Type Haimo 295-315 Coach that had been released in May this year from Tomix, and that is using the same model car as well.
I do wonder if they will be releasing the creating a series of color variation, with the Tarumi Railway and Nagaragawa Railway as their starting point.

A brown coloring has been lined up for the Incline Standard Train Type EF64
Production for model has been decided!

- JR Type EF64 Electric Locomotive (Brown)
JR Type EF64 Electric Locomotive (Brown)

Out of the electric locomotive of JNR, the Type EF64 was developed for the inclined regions.
The lines that are/were seen often includes: Ou Main Line, Chuo Main Line, Shinonoi Line, Hakubi Line, and the Ome Line etc.
They are often used for lines that run in regions with mountains.
But of course, it is also used in other lines too.

As it had used the type EF62 that had already debuted as its base, it has a similar design, but the finer details are different.
It also has similar design to the Type EF65-1000 that has close release period, so it is interesting to see the transition in design of the electric locomotives of this period too.

Right, the item to be turned into a model this time is titled [Brown Coloring].
The majority of Type EF64 is colored with blue + cream, but the cars painted purely in brown were only 2 cars, the car No.37 and No.41, of JR East.
And out of the two, the No.37 that is still currently active is to be turned into a model.

It is used for towing group trains, special temporary trains, and work/construction trains etc. as well as experience in towing the Sleeper Express [Akebono] and [Hokuriku] as well, so this is a car recommended for people that wish to recreate those formations.

The car No.37 is grouped in the 5th generation production cars.
Tomix is not only planning the release for the brown car No.37, but also scheduling normal coloring of the Type EF64 5th Generation cars as well, so you can have peace of mind.

Tomytec

The Tram car series
Railway Collection Tram Car Lineup Project Underway!
Slated for release in spring 2011

- TR014 Iyo Railway Type Moha2000
- TR015 Kyoto Municipal Transportation Bureau Type2000
Tomytec Railway Collection New Products

The Railway Collection is in the in the process of expanding the tram car series, with the Toyama Light Rail being first on the list.
They were mostly new type trams with low flooring, but the items announced this time are trams of the good old days.

There were 6 cars of Kyoto Municipal Transportation Bureau Type2000 that had been produced, and had been active during the period of 1964~1977 on the Kyoto Tram. The Kyoto Tram had been completely abolished, but the 5 cars excluding the No.2001 had been transferred to Iyo Railways, keeping their numbers but had the format code changed to Type Moha2000, and are still currently active.

The cars of the same model, in their current appearance and that of their Kyoto days, had been selected to be added to the Railway Collection, it seems.
The change in the paintwork is obvious, but there are many other differences, such as the position of the headlights, roll-sign, air- conditioner equipped on the rooftop being present or not etc., so I say this is something to keep an eye on.

The [TR014] and [TR015] at the beginning of the product name seems to be the numbering for the trams of the Railway Collection. If you count from the previous models such as the Toyama Light Rail items, these are the 14th and 15th products.

Production for model has been decided!
Railway Collection
Slated for release in 2011

- The Railway Collection Nagano Electric Railways Series2000 Formation A (Brown Coloring) Revival Color 3-Car Set
- The Railway Collection Nagano Electric Railways Series2000 Formation D (Apple Coloring) Revival Color 3-Car Set
Railway Collection Nagano Electric Railways Series2000 Revival Color

The Nagano Electric Railways Series 2000 had been active as a limited express train over the period of 50 years.
At present, the main limited express is ran by the Series 1000 ex-Odakyu Electric Railway trains, but you could say that this was, and still is the face of Nagano Electric Railways, that much hasn’t changed.

There were 4 formations of Series 2000 produced, but the only formations left at present are the 2 formations, the formation A and formation D.
From 2007, the coloring that it had once sported had been revived, so the formation A has a brown (or could be seen as maroon) coloring, and the formation D has the Apple coloring.
This "Apple coloring" is just two tone coloring of red and cream, by the way.
An alias that was given for the similarity in colors, exactly as is.

The Railway Collection of Tomytec had released the un-air conditioned period models in Vol.5 in Oct 2007, and Formation A Current Coloring (at the time) in July 2008, but this time, The formation A will be retuning with the brown coloring.

And, the formation D was added 7years after formation A, thus had some specification changes. Knowing that the Railway Collection care for even the small differences in details, I wonder how they will be expressing this.

Construction Machine Collection
Slated for release in March
Site of the Past and the Present

- Construction Machine Collection Vol.2
Renewal Product Scheduled for Release!
- Visual Scene Collection Series Construction Site
- Building Collection Construction Equipment Rental Shop
Tomytec Construction Collection

The 2nd volume of the popular Construction Machinery Collection will be produced.
And with its release, there will also be renewal products of the Visual Scene Accessories Construction Site A,B,C, as well as the renewal product of Construction Equipment Rental Shop from the Buildings Collection too.

Diorama Collection Feb ~ Mar. 2011 Theme: "Site of the Past and the Present"
Tomutec Construction Site of the Past and the Present

They had also set a theme to the Diorama Collection, and for the releases in Feb~Mar next year, the theme will be "Site of the Past and the Present", and will be releasing the Construction Machinery Collection vol.2 etc.

But gosh, they are made in N-Scale, yet the construction machinery all big and has an overwhelming presence, I have to say.
They stand out like this, even in a photo that had been taken from a step back.
It could be good to display it with the building sites of the Visual Scene Accessory Collection, or you could place them in the construction area such as Building under Construction A/B etc. as well.
