Miyazawa Model Exhibition Railway Model Report vol.5<br />–Kato-
Hello. Kapinozuka here.
There was a little gap since the last report, but this is a report continuing with the exhibited Railway model items from the "Miyazawa Model Exhibition".

★KATO

• 2016-1 D51 498
Miyazawa Models Exhibition Displayed Products

The item of high expectations, the D51-498.
Just like the Hobby Show at Makuhari,
there was a demonstration of the super slow driving.

• 14-802-3 Toyama Inter-city Train Loop Line [Centram] Type 9000 #9003 (Black)
Miyazawa Models Exhibition Displayed Products

The item we are all eagerly waiting for the release of, the black version of the Centram.
I guess this is how it would be like, if you looked down at it from higher buildings or bridges.
The complicated machinery on the roof contrasts the sleek, simple look of the body.
And you can see that the seats seen through the window are reproduced in fine details too.

• 14-802-1 Toyama Inter-city Train Loop Line [Centram] Type 9000 #9001 (White)

This is the white Centram that that was released this month.
Now, the Silver Centram wasn’t on display.

• 10-847 Series E259 ’Narita Express’ (Basic 3-Car Set)
• 10-848 Series E259 ’Narita Express’ (Add-On 3-Car Set)
Miyazawa Models Exhibition Displayed Products

The greatly popular Series E259 "Narita Express". By combining the basic 3-car set and the add-on 3-car set, you can recreate the full 6-car formation, so this is the Best Selection style product at a reasonable price.

Compared to the 10-821 Series E259 ’Narita Express’ (6-Car Set) that is already released, different car numbers have been printed on each car, on top of the set composition that had been changed.

The actual Series E259 "Narita Express" is also operated by joining two 6-car formations to run as a 12-car formation as well.
So this basically means that if you join existing product with the new Basic + Add-on, you will be able to reproduce the 12-car formation without having overlapping car numbers.

• 10-831 Series 24 Express Train with Sleeping Berths ’Hokutosei’ [Deluxe Formation] (Basic 6-Car Set)
• 10-832 Series 24 Express Train with Sleeping Berths ’Hokutosei’ [Deluxe Formation] (Add-On 6-Car Set)

At the exhibition, there were displays that shown the development progress of the Series 24 Sleeper Express "Hokutosei" Deluxe Formation as a sample.

The uncolored sample that is likely to be the Car No,11 Ohanefu 25-215 (scheduled to be add-on).

In the image, there are the samples without their strips painted on yet,
To the left, the Car No.8 Orone25-505 (scheduled to be add-on set)
and to the right, the Car No.9 Orohane25-502 (scheduled to be basic set).

The Cars No.7~11 and the Kani24 belongs to the JR East.
Since the paintwork isn’t completed yet, just think of this as a reference.

It might be good to note that the Car No.7 Sushi24 (Dining Car) is not compatible with the optional Room light, to allow the lighting of lampshade lights on the tables to stand out.

Also, the Hokutosei towing car is also scheduled to be re-released too!

• 3065-1 EF510-500 Hokutosei Color
Miyazawa Models Exhibition Displayed Products

For the towing of Hokutosei within the Honshu Region, I recommend the EF510-500 Hokutosei Color. The re-release product will still have the white insulators. For those that aren’t happy with the color and has experience in changing parts, I really recommend you get the Assy Parts.

• 7008-2 DD51 Late Type Cold Type Hokutosei
Miyazawa Models Exhibition Displayed Products

And for towing in un-electrified areas of Hokkaido, the DD51 Hokutosei Color is recommended.
As a principle, the actual cars are used as a double header, so there are many customers that have ordered two of these.

By the way, the Tsugaru-Kaikyō Line (Seikan Tunnel) is town by the ED79.

And I found a mysterious product.

• 10-830 SL Train Set (D51 is the old product)
Miyazawa Models Exhibition Displayed Products

We haven’t started taking reservations for these yet, but it seems that a car set by the title of "SL Train Set" with the old passenger car and D51 is being planned.
The D51 that is included in this set will be the existing product.

*The difference between the D51 498 planed for release and the Existing D51The difference between the includes the time setting and car specifications, as well as the scale of the car.

There are different theories as to why the scale is different, so I’ll introduce two convincing ones.

For starter, the existing D51 is a model with time setting of early 1970s, and to produce it at the Japanese N-Scale (1/150) that Kato advocates, the motor back then weren’t able to fit the car.

The other theory is that there were voices (trend?) that said "Locomotives look cooler being slightly big", and after some arrangements, it was made at around 1/140 scale.

The credibility of the above two theories are unknown, so please only think of it as a reference.

However, there were other D51 by other N-Scale companies that weren’t actually 1/150 scale as well.
It seems that ultimately, it came down to how much they could secure mobility, as well as achieving both the "Similarity in appearance" and "function to run", the troubles and hardship that each company carry behind the scenes.

I’ve gone a little off topic, but although they may differ in size a little bit, they are both D51 made as N-Scale train, so please enjoy them to match your budget/play environment/taste etc.

And that will conclude the Kato report.

By Kapinozuka (often mistakes the locomotive D51 and the J-pop duo D-51...)
