Good starting set! + Model is well made, with great lettering and digital front and rear lights. + Rails are easy to connect. The connector to the adapter is brilliant. + The rerailer is crucial for Z scale. - Adapter not included. - Curves in the track are too tight for the Kiha 52 at slow speeds. - Box is huge, see pics. I feel like I could have saved on shipping costs. But overall, it's a very good buy, especially for this price.

Model Icon wasn't a brand I had heard of before I purchased this, but it is quite good quality. The provided couplers are small next to Kato's, Tramway's, or Kadee's couplers, but replacing these isn't nesisarily needed nor difficult.

Fun and easy to build kit even for those like me who can't read Japanese! High quality and durable brass construction with a very smooth running chassis makes this one of my best tiny models. Highly recommended!

Disapointed that, unlike most 009 products from other manufactures, this is NOT DCC ready. Can see Kato/Peco loosing out in the retail market due to this major omiission.

It's great that KATO makes my favorite 16.5 mm scale !!! Great electric locomotive! Exceptional ride quality - Smoothest and smallest travel. But the top speed is not very high. Thanks to this model, I fell in love with KATO. Thank you !!! I am very glad !

One of my first KATO models and one of my best models. The item is well detailed, runs very well even on sharp turns and has a nice headlight. Definitely would recommend.

Easy to assemble kit, runs well and looks fantastic. I used Endo spoked wheels, Kadee #5 couplers, and Testors gloss black paint (so the water-transfer decals would adhere better,) and finally two coats of dull-coat paint. Then the model was given a very light weathering similar to that seen in black-and-white period photos. All-in-all, HobbyModel did a fine job with this kit, and I will order more of their products as I need them. Thanks!

Rokuhan's C005 eTrain Controller technical potential is by far its greatest strength. It frees modellers from having to buy costly proprietary DCC interface hardware by allowing use of cell phones and tablets to control trains. For two months now my trains run flawlessly, and I operate very small two axle locomotives. My wholehearted appreciation to Rokuhan for bringing this trailblazing product to market and I strongly encourage further development of the eTrain Controller App.

Great model - usual fine detailing, unfortunately this can prove it's undoing. The photo shows a missing shunter rail - lost by me, but I cannot find the part. It would good customer relations from Kato if they made spare parts available for problems like this - the missing rail spoils the look of the model.

2 units per set, 10.5mm plain disc wheel to 16.5mm gauge, set up for DC only (1 wheel live to motor). Gear ratio 4.5:1 Brass bearings loose in frame, causing chatter at speed. Easy to solder solidly in place. (The non-geared wheel pulls off the axle to access the bearings) The unit will need running in time to bed the gears in, then a regular lubrication thereafter. Very useful indeed - I have 2 powering an East German railbus and plan to use 4 m ore to power a Bo-Bo locomotive correctly.
