Kumamoto Castle

Its scale is 1/144 ? Gunplas can be displayed together with this.

Then let's see how big this Kumamoto Castle plastic model is.

Hight : About 295mm
Width : About 400mm

I can't display such a big item in my small room (ToT)

Now, please let me introduce Kumamoto Castle to guys who don't know anything about the castle.

Once upon a time, from the middle to the latter of the Age of Civil War (between 1467 AD and 1573 AD), there was a military commander called KATO Kiyomasa who was raised by Hideyoshi from his younger age. He was not just one of Hideyoshi's subordinate warriors but a good castle desinger and Kumamoto Castle was designed by him. After Hideyoshi's death, the Battle of Sekigahara where a ruler of Japan was determined broke out and feudal lords throughout Japan were involved with the battle. Since the relationship between Kiyomasa and one of the leading commanders of the Western Army, ISHIDA Mitsunari, was terrible, Kiyomasa joined the Eastern Army led by TOKUGAWA Ieyasu. It is said that he showed his obedience to Ieyasu, but at the same time his loyalty to Hideyoshi did not change and he was always prepared to shelter Hideyori, a son of the late Hideyoshi. Unfortunately, after a couple of years later, Kiyomasa fell ill and passed away, leaving a young castellan and the castle behind (There is a story that he was poisoned to death).

It is after the Meiji Era came that Kumamoto Castle was first involved with a civil war. The number of soldiers of the Meiji government forces who barricaded themselves inside Kumamoto Castle was 4,000 and that of the anti-government forces led by SAIGO Takamori is 14,000. This is the last civil war in Japan called Seinan Senso (a.k.a The Satsuma Rebelion or the Southwestern War).

It is said that, in this civil war, Kumamoto Castle did not allow the anti-government forces to enter the castle at all. Especially the way to construct the stonewall with curve called mushagaeshi, which literally means holding off warriors, does not just make the catsle look beautiful but also make it invulnerable and difficult for soldiers to climb.

You could understand how great Kumamoto Castle is ? I know that is but it is a bit troublesome for you guys to have a large area for displaying the castle. And you know its regular price is 25,000 JPY and it makes you take a risk, right ? Yeah you must take a risk but at the same time it is true that this Kumamoto Castle has attractions which other castle plastic models do not have. This could be recommended for guys who are interested in the inside of castles or deeply love Kumamoto Castle.

****** A little trivia ******

Personally I'm more interested in his body armor than in Kumamoto Castle. That is called "Katahadanugi Nimaidou" in Japanese, which is a small body armor and exposes breast part on the left-hand side. If this item included Katakamayari, which is a lance having a small blade on its main blade, it would be perfect.........
