Looking at Freight Car in Kawai Company <br />11th International Model Railroad Convention Report
Hello, it's Kapinozuka.

Continuing with the International Model Railroad Convention Report, I would like to introduce what seemed to be samples of the new products that were subtly displayed at the Booth of Kawai.

However, there were no details regarding the release period nor pricing announced yet, so please think of it as a reference display for the time being.

C-Type Diesel + Freight Car Set

The Kawai "C-Type Diesel Locomotive" are the small locomotives that are used for changing freight cars at the stations that deals with freights. So they are basically reproduced models of the so-called "Switchers". It has been slightly simplified, but is an item that's been greatly loved and familiarized for a long time. Kawai has come up with 3-car set products, consisting of 2 freight cars onto one of these small locomotives. The pricing is relatively cheap, and is able to be used on a small layout as well, making it a fun, flexible freight train set.

The color variations of these C-Type locomotives are gradually increasing, and I had spotted what seemed to be the samples of the new colors.

▼ Deep Orange C-Type Diesel and Green Wamu 80000 (commercial use car)
JAM Convention Kawai Booth
The two Wamu at the back are not the ones for freight, but had reproduced that of the business use car. This is a set with very thick colors, so it will surely stand out if you let it run on a rental layout or at the model running sessions for sure.
Now, which railway comes to your mind with this combination?

▼ Light Blue C-Type Diesel and Tora 90000
JAM Convention Kawai Booth
I believe this is a set based on the idea of the specialty of Muroran, chip transport freight train.
So I guess the light blue C-Type Diesel is a Muroran Developed Switcher (DB256 or DB255) style model.

▼ Light Blue with Pale Orange C-Type Diesel and Taki 7750?
JAM Convention Kawai Booth
I would also think this is a model with coloring based on a switcher used for a freight station somewhere, or freight lines, port lines etc.
The freight cars at the back are hard to identify due to the image being off focus, but I think it was the Taki 7750.
Looking at the logos, the first one is probably the Hayakawa Corporations, and the other one seems to be the Kansai Kaseihin Yuso...

Other Freight Car Sets

The N-Scale sets by Kawai are usually between 2~3 car sets.

▼ Type Seki 6000
JAM Convention Kawai Booth
Estimated from the car number, this is the Type Seki 6000.
The Seki 7454 to the left says "For Ishihara Machi ~ Kurosaki Area" and the other car has the writing "Kyu", therefore we can estimate the origin of this model to be based on the Limestone transport car in the Kitakyushu area or the Kyushu region.
It could be released as the variation of the KP-116.

▼ Type Wamu 80000 (Commercial Use Car)
JAM Convention Kawai Booth
The green Wamu from Hiroshima Car Yard. It's used as the Supply Transport Car.
There is a white bold writing on the green body that says "Nishi" and "SUPPLY LINE".
It seems to be of different car number and different green compared to the KP-137.

▼ Type Tomufu1
JAM Convention Kawai Booth
There was a note placed near by that stated "Type Tomufu 1 (New Spec.) Coming Soon".

The Type Tomufu 1 is an open wagon that had been equipped with a conductor's room.
The actual car was a freight car that had been prepared quickly during WWII, created with the focus on the functionality that allows it to carry freight and the conductor in one car. However, as it was developed in such circumstances, we can't help but notice the rough workmanship. After the war, around the year 1953, the conductor's room had been removed and had been turned into Type Tora 6000; the Type Tomufu1 had only been around for a period of roughly 10 years, making this a very rare freight car.

Classic Passenger Car

Here is something rare for Kawai, which mainly deals with freight cars, a passenger car.

The Classic Passenger Car that was also displayed as sample display at the Matsuya Railway Model Show.
The details are still unknown, so let's wait for the news that will surely come later.

So that was the samples from the booth of Kawai, that is a great friend to all the Freight car fans.

By Kapinozuka – What, too much freight cars lately? Naw, that's just your imagination!
