── Second stage of comfortable commuting! Series 103 prototype air-conditioning car (late)!

[actual car]
- Series 103 has produced various variations as a standard format for JNR commuter trains.
- In 1970, one 10-car train was manufactured for the Yamanote Line for the purpose of testing cooling equipment, and three types of centralized cooling equipment, AU73X (manufactured by Toshiba), AU74X (manufactured by Hitachi), and AU75X (manufactured by Mitsubishi) were installed. It was decided to adopt AU75 for comparison.
- 3 of the 10 vehicles' cooling systems have since been replaced for further cooling testing.
- In 1978, all cars were replaced with mass-produced AU75, and the characteristic cooling system disappeared.
