- DD51 is a diesel locomotive for the main line representing JNR, with 649 cars manufactured from 1962 (Showa 37).
- For snowy regions including Hokkaido, the A cold region specification featuring a swivel window was deployed.
- Of the vehicles in the Hokkaido area inherited by JR Freight, the vehicles with only the aging parts updated are called A renewal color with a cream front on a blue body, and appeared after 2004 (Heisei 16). .
-In the later years, JR Freight-affiliated machines in the Hokkaido area gathered in the Washibetsu Engine Depot, and in 2014, they were handed over to the successor DF200, and all cars were retired.
