●1950年代に一世を風靡した大陸横断列車、カリフォルニア・ゼファー(CZ)が新車番で
登場です！CZは、シカゴ～サンフランシスコ間を3日間かけて走破いたしました。その
行程においては、CZが3社の鉄道会社によって運用されていた特殊な事情により、
区間により牽引機関車が変わりました。
●シカゴ～デンバー間はCB&Q(シカゴ・バーリントン&クウィンシー鉄道)、デンバー～
ソルトレイクシティ間はD&RGW(デンバー&リオグランデ・ウェスタン鉄道)、ソルトレイク
シティ～サンフランシスコ間はWP(ウェスタンパシフィック鉄道)の機関車が牽引いたし
ました。

The Most Talked About Train In The Country
Inaugurated on March 20, 1949, the California Zephyr was operated by the Chicago Burlington & Quincy (CB&Q), Rio Grande (D&RGW), and Western Pacific (WP). This route was known as The Scenic Way across America, an advertising slogan originally introduced by the steam and heavyweight-equipped Exposition Flyer of 1939, Operating from Chicago to San Francisco, the CZ covererd 2,532 miles. CB&Q had the largest segment of trackage at 1,034 miles, while D&RGW and WP had 570 and 928, respectively. Equipment for the CZ started arriving in 1948 and the railroads used some of the cars on the Exposition Flyer until the complate CZ consist was ready. The Lounge, Dining and trademark Observation cars were stored until the train was ready to make its debut in 1949. With five dome cars, the CZ provided an excellent view of the beautiful western scenery.
