――The structure of the ship is characteristic of that time, and there are streaks that intersect diagonally on the hull, which considerably increases the strength of the hull.
--In June 1812, we will participate in the War of 1812.
--On August 19, 1812, I encountered the British fleet frigate Guerriere (38 ships) off the coast of Nova Scotia.
--The Constitution has engaged in artillery battles with Guerriere, damaging Guerriere's fore mast and main mast after several collisions in the battle.
--Gerière surrendered due to this damage, and the ship was disposed of after the sailors left the ship.
--The Constitution has the strength of a broadside gun and excellent sailing ability, and in combat it bounced off British shells with a tough live oak side plate and was unharmed. It is nicknamed "Size" (meaning the old iron shipside).
――The Constitution is still enrolled in the US Navy and is moored at Pier No. 1 of the Charlestown Naval Base as the oldest active ship that can sail.
