- [SL Banetsu Monogatari] traction machine, C57 type 180 belongs to Niitsu Transportation District ... The former Niitsu engine depot is the traction machine of [SL Yamaguchi], which was the forerunner of JNR's SL revival operation It is also the place where C57 type No. 1 spent the last years of his active life.
- Unit 1 pulled the train on the Uetsu Main Line in May 1972 (Showa 47).
- There were many times that the C57 type pulled the train, but this was the first and last time that the 1st unit pulled the train.
- After being towed, it did not work as a commuter train, and was towed by commemorative trains, etc., with its decorations still intact.
-After some time, in 1999 (Heisei 11), Unit 180 will be revived as a traction machine for [SL Banetsu Monogatari].
- This aircraft, which has been active mainly in the Niigata area since its new production, was also a wingman of Unit 1 during its active service period.
- Retired in 1969 (Showa 44) earlier than Unit 1, but after that it will be carefully preserved statically at Niitsu Daiichi Elementary School.
- The good condition and the fact that it has been loved by the local Niitsu helped the return of Unit 180 to the main line.
- Due to the heavy rain in August 2022, some sections of the Banetsu West Line were suspended due to bridges being washed away, etc., and [SL Banetsu Monogatari] was also suspended in the middle of the season.
- About 8 months later, on April 1, 2023, the entire line was restored. [SL Banetsu Monogatari] is scheduled to resume operation in the summer after Unit 180 has completed general inspections.

[Type C57 Unit 1, Commanding Specification]
