- In 1934, the development of the Panzer II tank started immediately after production of the Panzer I began, and the prototype type was completed the following year in 1935.
- Prototypes and improvements continued after that, and full-scale mass production began in 1937.
- In 1938, when it was formalized as the Panzer II, it was used as a main battle tank on various fronts, including the invasion of Poland, until the appearance of the Panzer III.
- The first mass-produced type was the Panzer II A type, and the C type was produced from 1938 until 1940.
- The engine is equipped with a Maybach HL62TRM inline 6-cylinder liquid-cooled gasoline engine.
