- Special Feature: 50th Anniversary 1/72 SCALE F-15 Eagle

On June 26, 1972, at the McDonnell Douglas plant in St. Louis, the prototype of the cutting-edge air superiority fighter, the F-15 Eagle, marked its debut as the YF-15A-1-MC/71-0280.

Subsequently transported to Edwards Air Force Base via a C-5 transport plane, it successfully took its first flight on July 27. Over the following two years, various tests and evaluations were conducted by a joint testing unit of McDonnell Douglas and the U.S. Air Force, involving prototypes,

including two-seat variants. The full-scale production of the F-15A began in November 1974, half a year before the actual deployment of the aircraft. In May 1974,

just before the deployment, Hasegawa announced the pioneering release of the 1/72 F-15 Eagle plastic model kit at the 13th Shizuoka Hobby Show, followed by its market release in July. Later that year, both Revell and Monogram in the United States also introduced their 1/72 F-15 Eagle kits, making 1974 a landmark year for the F-15 Eagle.

Now, after 50 years have passed, both the actual F-15 Eagle and its 1/72 kit have evolved, remaining active and continuing to capture the attention of modelers.

In Aircraft Model Special No.44, we commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1/72 Scale F-15 Eagle kit by building representative kits from each era, spanning from the first Hasegawa kit to the latest FineMolds kit.
