- The 0-series 1000-series Shinkansen trains were manufactured from 1976 onwards to replace the aging earlier 0-series Shinkansen trains.
- Changes from the earlier model include making the passenger windows smaller in response to frequent window glass breakage caused by snow damage near Sekigahara, as well as changes to the main controller and bogie materials.
- The prototype of the product has been created so that it can be used not only to create a [mixed train of large and small windows] in which early cars are replaced with 1000 series cars in the appearance when the 1000 series was first introduced, but also to create a 16-car train with only [small windows], which was manufactured to make up for the shortage of cars due to train reconfiguration work.
