- With its four-wheel drive and high ground clearance, the Ford F30 seemed like the obvious choice for a patrol truck.
- But the added weight of four-wheel drive and high fuel consumption (almost twice that of a Chevrolet truck) caused many problems with these vehicles.
- It was discovered that Ford engines were very susceptible to the effects of sand and the trucks began to require inordinate amounts of oil after a relatively short working day, so more and more Fords were abandoned and eventually all remaining F30s were replaced with Chevrolet 30CWTs.
- LRDG Fords typically had the hood and cab removed and the condenser mounted on the running board for increased cooling.

- The LRDG F-30 is a detailed replica with the hood, doors, roof etc. removed so you can get a good look at the engine etc.
