[Actual vehicle guide]
- The EF64-1000 series is a DC electric locomotive that was introduced in 1980 to replace old electric locomotives on the Takasaki and Joetsu lines.
- Among the same type of cars, up to the 1032nd car, electric heating equipment was installed for pulling passenger trains, but from the 1033rd car onwards, electric heating equipment was not installed as it was used for freight trains, and the appearance changed, such as the side electric heating indicator light and some jumper plugs being removed.
- During the JNR era, it was used for both passenger and freight trains, mainly on the Joetsu Line, and some belonged to the Hachioji Locomotive Depot and were used to pull freight trains on the Nambu Line and Ome Line.
- After the privatization of the Japanese National Railways, JR Freight cars were renovated in 2003 and were given the original white and blue livery, but some of the cars were repainted in the Japanese National Railways colors in 2017.
- Until the 2000s, most of them belonged to Takasaki Locomotive Depot and were mainly used for hauling freight on the Joetsu Line. After the line was replaced by the EH200 series, they were transferred to Aichi Locomotive Depot and operated mainly on the Chuo West Line, Tohoku Main Line, Kashima Line, and other lines in the Tokyo metropolitan area. However, they have now been replaced and are mainly used on the Chuo West Line and Hakubi Line.
