- The F-CK-1 is a domestically produced fighter jet developed by the Republic of China's state-owned aviation company AIDC (Aerospace Industrial Development Corporation) with technical assistance from several US private companies. Its nickname is Ching-Kuo.
- In 1998, AIDC carried out a small-scale upgrade to existing Ching Kuo aircraft by equipping them with an integrated electronic warfare system. This was followed in 2000 by a proposal for a full-scale upgrade to the Taiwan Air Force, which included upgrading the avionics and FCS to improve ground attack capability, improving landing gear, and extending range with conformal tanks.
- This upgrade plan, named the "Xiang Sheng Special Plan", took seven years to develop and had a budget of NT$7 billion.
- As a result of this modification, the maximum takeoff weight increased from 12,530 kg to 18,000 kg, the onboard fuel load including conformal tanks increased from 2,111 kg to 4,700 kg, and the number of wing hardpoints increased from six to eight. As a result of the increase in hardpoints, the number of engines carried by the Tianjian-2 increased from two to four.
- The onboard mission computer has also been upgraded from a 16-bit to a 32-bit model.
- The first upgraded single-seater model made its first flight in October 2006, and the two-seater model successfully completed a test flight in March 2007. The upgraded type was named "Male Eagle."
