In 1997, when the sixth-generation Civic underwent a minor change, a high-performance grade, the Type R, was added, which featured a lighter body with circuit racing in mind, as well as a stronger engine and suspension.
Although there have been some interruptions since then, the Civic Type R is now in its sixth generation with the current FL5 model, and remains an iconic Honda sports car.
Hot Wheels chose the FK8 model, one generation before the current model, as its subject. It features an aggressive design that is often described as `Gundam-chic.' The engine is a turbocharged 2-liter that produces 320 horsepower.
In 2017, shortly after its release, the FK8 set the world record for the fastest front-wheel drive car at the time on the Nordschleife course of Germany's Nürburgring, a race circuit where only a car with excellent overall balance can achieve such a time.
In this release, the red body matches well with the white and gold graphics that are reminiscent of the old `Mugen Colors`.
