The sequel to the popular "Nobuo Kobayashi's Model World" is finally here!

As with the previous issue, this time we have selected the theme of "electric railways" from the vast number of articles that Nobuo Kobayashi has published in the monthly "Train Model Hobby" (TMS) over the past 33 years. In addition, we have added some articles about structures that were not included in the previous issue.

The joy of building vehicles, structures, layouts, and creating a "model world" that is more than just a place to run vehicles. I believe that this is what Kobayashi wanted to convey to everyone... I have chosen this article with this in mind.

Chapter 1, "Building Small Vehicles," features a selection of articles on building vehicles suitable for small railway layouts. It includes a wide variety of models, including wooden trains, passenger cars, freight trains, and express trains, and will be useful references for building vehicles for your model railway company. We hope you'll also get a sense of Kobayashi's passion for his prototypes.

Chapter 2, "Building 1/80 Structures," includes the series article "Building a Small Port," as well as articles on essential elements of Kobayashi's world, such as a school, a temple, and the Vista Coach double-decker bus. While all of the examples are 1/80 scale, they are useful references for any scale and will be helpful in your layout creation.

Chapter 3, "An Invitation to Light Railways," features excerpts, primarily relating to layouts, from a series of articles about narrow gauge 9mm that ran from 2008 to 2009. Electric equipment has traditionally been considered unpopular in the narrow gauge world, but it seems that the tide has been turning in recent years. Please enjoy Kobayashi's unique theory on narrow gauge models and the mysterious world that only narrow gauge can offer.

Chapter 4, "You Can Be a Railway Manager Too!", is a series of articles on layout construction that ran from 2002 to 2003. I hope it will give you a sense of how even a 16.5mm layout can be enjoyed in the same space-saving space as an N gauge layout. It's not a simple "how-to" article; it contains a variety of considerations and know-how, and there is much information that can be useful for layouts of other scales and gauges.

So, model railway operators, let's take a look at the railways in Kobayashi's "Model World" to get some reference for creating your own railways.
