Product Description

The Type 12 surface-to-ship guided missile (12SSM), which is used by the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, began to be procured in fiscal year 2012.
It will be deployed as a domestically produced surface-to-ship missile to serve as a deterrent against foreign warships as part of island defense.
It is still fresh in our memory that it was deployed to the 5th Surface-to-Ship Missile Regiment of the Western Army Artillery Unit in 2016 (Heisei 28).
The Type 17 surface-to-ship guided missile (SSM-2), developed based on the Type 12 SSM, aims for longer range (standoff capability), and from 2020 onwards, development will shift to an improved version of the Type 12 surface-to-ship guided missile that can be operated from a variety of Self-Defense Forces equipment (Ground, Maritime, and Air Self-Defense Forces).

The Japan Air Self-Defense Force is developing an air-launched version, and operational testing of the aircraft mounted on an F-2 fighter jet by the Flight Test Wing was observed at Gifu Air Base in August 2026.

The kit includes an F-2B, decals for Air Development and Test Wing aircraft No. 101, and a set of two 3D-printed Type 12 surface-to-ship guided missiles with improved capabilities.
