Product Description
The Tachikaze was commissioned in March 1976 as the first ship of the Tachikaze-class, the second generation of guided-missile destroyers in the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force.
It was equipped with the Tartar-D, the latest integrated missile system at the time, and could also be fitted with Standard Missiles (SM-1MR).
In 1998, the ship underwent modifications including the removal of its aft turret and the installation of a new command center. It became the flagship of the escort fleet and remained in service until 2007.
