Product Description

The V Corps (United States Army), stationed in the former West Germany state of Hesse, conducted the Reforger strategic deployment exercise (a US military reinforcement exercise for Germany) every few years.
Following the Gordian Shield in 1976 and the Certain Shield in 1978, Reforger 81 and the night combat exercise Certain Encounter were again conducted within the corps' jurisdiction from September to October 1981.
The corps-level exercise, "Certain Encounter," was a live-fire exercise in which two sides, each the size of a division, were divided into Blue (friendly forces) and Orange (enemy forces), involving a massive force of over 70,000 soldiers, 4,787 tracked vehicles, 15,601 wheeled vehicles, and 600 aircraft and helicopters.
This book uses powerful on-site photographs to provide a detailed look at the military vehicles from the United States, the United Kingdom, and West Germany that participated in the exercise, as well as the various phases of the exercise.
This book features numerous color photographs of vehicles such as the US Army's M60A1 RISE main battle tank, M113A2 personnel carrier, M577A2 command armored vehicle, and M559 Gehr fuel tanker, as well as the West German Army's Leopard 1A1A1/1A1A2 main battle tank and Marder 1A1 infantry fighting vehicle, including rare camouflage paint schemes.
This book is a must-have for researchers and modelers of US military and NATO equipment and camouflage from the early 1980s.
