Tomeko's Ambition
Feeling slightly groggy lately, could be due to the temp getting hotter lately, Tomeko here. How is everyone?

German Field kitchen
German Field kitchen

I think I've introduced something similar from the Italian army, but this time it's a meal car (?) from the German army! They must have loads of sausages, potatoes and beer etc. in there. (prejudice views)

In the descriptions, it says it also comes with "milk cans and rice cooking container".
I donno if its at the front line of Europe of North Africa, but in a period without fridge, I really do wonder if the milk won't go off...
or may be they maintained some degree of freshness by obtaining it locally.

I digress.
I haven't looked into this yet, but personally I wonder what the meals were like in the Jap army back then too.
To be honest, I can only think of rice balls plus salt, or may be miso or something, but that's about it, but that's not much different from the Sengoku period... I think.

Right, moving on, the next item is this here.

German Kettenkrad
German Kettenkrad

This is something so popular in the German army that I probably wouldn't even need to explain.
Mainly used to transfer luggage, the small half-track.
A half-track vehicle has a normal front wheel, but the back wheel has been equipped with crawler tracks.

For the Kettenkrad, the front wheel is like that of a motorbike, with the back being crawler track. Now, for those wondering why it has a crawler tracks only for the back, allow me to give a brief explanation.

A fully tracked vehicle with all wheels attached to a crawler track will obviously increase ground resistance, and with the low level of engine technology in the WWII period, they weren't always able to use them. Plus, there were other factors to consider such as cost of maintenance and production, and the reliability etc. and came to the birth of the half-track, taking the good part of both parties.

However, with the issues of the track crawler being removed for the fully tracked vehicles, most vehicles being used by the military became equipped with either 100% tracked or 100% tyres.
For people like me that loves these Half-tracks, the world has become a little less exciting...

And out of spite, I think that I will revive the Kettenkrad when I become rich and famous the future, and spend my days riding it around! Hehehe.

And since we are looking at German stuff, I thought we could look at this one too.

Zundapp KS750 and BMW R75

I hear that the main uses for the motorbikes on the war fields are for scouting.
And these two here were very popular, the Zudapp KS750 and BMW R75.

Right after the sudden start of WWII.
The German army used a "Blitzkrieg" strategy, concentrating on speedy attack, and conquering many surrounding countries and gaining ground.
And as a part of this "speed" requirement, the motorbike squad had been responsible for the scouting missions.

Compared to the motorbikes these days, comfort of the ride and fuel consumption rate etc. may be really bad, but it still has its own characteristic taste.
The number plate positioned on the fender above the front wheel especially demonstrates the magnificent sense they had!

When I become rich and famous in the future, I will revive these KS750 and R75 etc and will ride these around. Hehehehe.

............yup, and with my ambitions for the future unveiled, I think we shall call it a day.
See you next time!
