[About the actual ship]
- Independence (CVL - 22) is the aircraft carrier of the US Navy commissioned in 1943 after the Pacific War began.
- The light cruiser Amsterdam has been completed as an aircraft carrier by rapidly changing the design of the hull that was being laid down.
