--Reproduces the appearance of the early window glass H-rubber gray of the ED79-100 series locomotive dedicated to the Seikan Tunnel

- The ED79 type was introduced as a locomotive to be used in the Seikan Tunnel, which opened in 1988. It was a modified ED75-700 type that was adapted to the continuous gradients and increased speeds in the tunnel, and was also equipped with safety devices for the Seikan Tunnel.
- 13 ED79-100 series locomotives were introduced as auxiliary locomotives for hauling freight trains running between Higashi-Aomori and Goryokaku, but all were retired in 2006.
- Because the 100 series was only equipped with safety devices at the two ends, it was always coupled to the Hakodate side of a multiple-header with the 0 series.

[Actual vehicle guide]
- The ED79 type was introduced as a locomotive to be used in the Seikan Tunnel, which opened in 1988. It was a modified ED75-700 type that was adapted to the continuous gradients and increased speeds in the tunnel, and was also equipped with safety devices for the Seikan Tunnel.
- There were 21 ED79-0 series cars, which were used for both passenger and freight trains between Aomori and Hakodate. However, they were withdrawn from freight service in 2006, and all of them were retired when the Hokkaido Shinkansen opened in 2016.
- 13 ED79-100 series locomotives were introduced as auxiliary locomotives for hauling freight trains on the Aomori-Hakodate freight train route, but all were retired in 2006.
