Although it was a bomber developed using such innovative technology, it had the problem that its cruising range was too short for a strategic bomber.
--The 3M developed by Myasichev has been changed to the Dobrinin RD-7 engine, which is more fuel efficient than the M-4, and the fuselage has been redesigned to reduce the weight of the fuselage and at the same time increase the size of the main wings. Also, by installing an aerial refueling probe on the nose, it has become possible to greatly extend the cruising range.
――This 3M first flew in 1956, and the deployment of troops began in 1958.
――The 3MD is an anti-ship / cruise missile mother model equipped with a VD-7B engine.
