[About the actual machine]
- The F-2 fighter has been in operation since 2000 and is active as the main fighter of the Air Self-Defense Force.
- Development started in 1988 as a successor to the F-1.
-Based on the American F-16, development work was carried out jointly by Japan and the United States, taking into consideration the operation as a Self-Defense Force aircraft and the geographical factors of Japan.
- In addition to being able to operate long-range air-to-ship missiles and ASM, it is also possible to operate air-to-air radar missiles.
- First deployed to Misawa Air Base's 3rd Squadron, Tsuiki Air Base's 6th and 8th Squadrons.
- It is demonstrating its capabilities in air defense missions in Japan's skies.
-The 3rd Air Wing, which belongs to the Northern Air Force under the Air General Corps, was organized at Matsushima Base on December 1, 1957 (Showa 32) and then transferred to Gifu Base and Komaki Base, 1978 (Showa 53). I moved to the current Misawa Air Base.
- September 2007 A ceremony was held to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the 3rd Air Wing, and in September 2007 the 3rd Air Wing of the Air Self-Defense Force celebrated its 50th anniversary.
-In line with that, the special painting machine was given a unique marking that arranged the Roman numeral VX (50) for each machine such as the F-2A of the 3rd Squadron, which is the machine to which it belongs.
