[About the actual machine]
- The F-2 fighter has been in operation since 2000 and is active as the main fighter of the Air Self-Defense Force.
- Development started in 1988 as a successor to the F-1. Based on the American F-16, development work was carried out jointly by Japan and the United States, taking into account the operation as a Self-Defense Force aircraft and the geographical factors of Japan.
- In addition to being able to operate long-range air-to-ship missiles and ASM, it is also possible to operate air-to-air radar missiles.
- First deployed to Misawa Air Base's 3rd Squadron, Tsuiki Air Base's 6th and 8th Squadrons.
- It is demonstrating its capabilities in air defense missions in Japan's skies.
