- Belle Montagne et Mer is a sightseeing train that began operating on the Johana Line connecting Johana and Takaoka and the Himi Line connecting Himi and Takaoka in October 2015.
- Belle Montagne et Mer is a French word meaning ``beautiful mountains and sea,'' which is a characteristic of the Johana Line and Himi Line, and the line has been given the nickname ``Belle Monta.''
- A large window has been installed on one side of the vehicle, and the seats facing the large window have been changed to counter seats so that you can enjoy the view of the Tateyama Mountain Range and the Sea of Japan.
- From around 2019, a jumper plug was added to the front like other Kiha 40 series vehicles owned by JR West.
