- The Plymouth Barracuda, released by Chrysler's Plymouth division in 1964, is known as the pioneer of pony cars, along with Ford's Mustang.
- It was considered the first pony car because it preceded the Mustang by several months, and its sporty design gained popularity.
- It was produced from its introduction in 1964 until 1974, and underwent two major model changes during that time.
- The 1969 model is the last year model of the second generation that was introduced with the first model change in 1966.
- There were three body types: hardtop coupe, two-door fastback, and convertible, and all engines in this 1969 model were V8 cylinders with three displacements.
