-- A comprehensive version of the EF81 multiple-unit locomotive! The 400 series makes its first appearance in 1/80 scale!

- Of the EF81 series, the 400 series was modified from the 0 series to replace the EF30 series used in the Kanmon Tunnel, and is characterized by the addition of a multiple-unit central control system.
- Currently, along with the 303, 450 and 500 series, it is used to pull freight trains within Kyushu.

[Actual vehicle guide]
- The EF81-300 series, four of which were introduced as locomotives for the Kanmon Tunnel, were characterized by their stainless steel bodies as a measure against salt damage in the Kanmon Tunnel, and the No. 303 locomotive is still in service within Kyushu to this day, remaining unpainted.
- Of the EF81 series, the 400 series was modified from the 0 series to replace the EF30 series used in the Kanmon Tunnel, and multiple-unit overall control was added.
- Currently, along with the 303, 450 and 500 series, it is used to pull freight trains within Kyushu.
- In the future, they are scheduled to be replaced by additional EF510-300 series locomotives.
