[About the actual car]
- During World War II, the Italian army deployed and operated the medium tank Carlo Armato and the assault gun based on it, the Semovente.
- The Carlo Armato was Italy's first full-fledged medium tank, officially adopted in 1939, and was developed almost simultaneously as an improved version of the M11/39.
- The development time was shortened by enlarging the chassis of the M11/39 and reusing the suspension etc.
- The vehicle was equipped with a fully rotating turret on top of the hull, and the main gun was a 47mm tank gun.
- In 1940, it was officially designated the M13/40. In the following year, an improved version was developed with a more powerful engine, and was designated the M14/41.
- Based on that vehicle body, the upper part of the vehicle body with the swivel turret was removed and a new fixed fighting compartment was installed in its place.
- An assault gun was developed that was equipped with a 75mm Da75/18 howitzer as its main gun.
- Carlo Armato's M13/40 chassis was designated the M40 da 75/18, while the M14/41 chassis was designated the M41 da 75/18.
- It is also effective in fire support and anti-tank combat, including ambush attacks from a low stance.
- It is considered the most successful Italian fighting vehicle of World War II.
