Product Description

──To mark the 40th anniversary of its opening, Sanriku Railway's Type 36 has been renewed with a new body!

[Actual vehicle guide]
- Sanriku Railway was established in 1981 as Japan's first third-sector railway company. The North Rias Line and South Rias Line sections, which opened on April 1, 1984, will celebrate their 40th anniversary in 2024.
- In addition, a logo commemorating the 40th anniversary of the opening will be displayed on the sides of some carriages.
- The section of the JR Yamada Line from Kamaishi to Miyako, which was damaged in the Great East Japan Earthquake, was transferred to Sanriku Railway in 2019.
- Currently, it is operated together with the existing "Kita-Rias Line" and "Minami-Rias Line" as the new "Rias Line", and is the longest operating line among Japan's third-sector railway companies.
- The Type 36 was introduced when the Sanriku Railway opened in 1984. Since then, the engines have been updated and the trains have been fitted with air conditioning. As of 2024, a total of eight of these trains are still in service.
