- The Shusui Gunpowder Rocket was a radio-guided surface-to-air missile planned by the Imperial Japanese Navy.
- In 1945, the Navy ordered the Civil Aviation Bureau to develop a special local fighter as a countermeasure against air raids on the Japanese mainland.
In response to this, the Civil Aviation Bureau decided to develop a radio-controlled anti-aircraft guided missile, and development began in March with engineer Yujiro Murakami as chief designer.
- Unlike normal anti-aircraft missiles, this missile did not carry explosives, but instead used the front of the fuselage as a ram to destroy enemy aircraft by ramming them, making it more like an unmanned aerial vehicle than a missile.
- The aircraft design is based on that of the Shusui rocket-powered local fighter, a tailless aircraft with a swept-back wing and a mixed wood-metal structure, hence the name "Shusui-style."
- The fuselage is bullet-shaped, with the fuselage tip and leading edge of the wing being strong and sharp to act as a ram.
- It was planned to use a solid-fuel rocket for propulsion, and after launching from a rail-mounted launch pad, the rocket would ignite and ascend under radio guidance. After reaching an altitude of 9,000m in just under 100 seconds, it would ram the enemy aircraft, glide and land under radio guidance, and then return to Earth, where the rocket would be replaced and reused.
- This aircraft was planned to be manufactured by Kawasaki Aircraft, but the end of the war came just as they had begun to create the production drawings, and the project was canceled.
- Although this aircraft is unmanned, there are also rough sketches remaining that show what appears to be a manned version with a cockpit.
