[About the actual machine]
- The flagship aircraft, the F-15J Eagle, is based on the U.S. Air Force's F-15C, which first entered combat service in 1974, but is equipped with the Japan Air Self-Defense Force's own equipment, including its own tactical electronic warfare system, J/TEWS, and an equally unique data link system.
- Deployment of the aircraft began in 1982, and they continue to play a key role in Japan's air defense to this day.
- At air shows held at bases that operate F-15Js, it is common to see aircraft with commemorative paint jobs made for exhibition flights.
- Tsuiki Air Base celebrated its 50th anniversary in 1992, and at the air show held on November 8th, the 304th Squadron's aircraft were shown off in commemorative livery.
- The 50th anniversary emblem on the vertical stabilizer was a popular addition.
