- The ramming winged rocket missile was a manned surface-to-air weapon project designed by the Imperial Japanese Navy based on the Shusui gunpowder rocket.
In 1945, the Navy ordered the Civil Aviation Bureau to develop a special fighter plane to counter air raids on the Japanese mainland. The Bureau decided to develop a radio-controlled anti-aircraft guided missile, and in March of that year began development of the Shusui gunpowder rocket.
- The Shusui gunpowder rocket was not equipped with explosives, but instead used the rammed front of the aircraft to destroy enemy aircraft by ramming them, making it more like an unmanned aerial vehicle than a missile.
- The aircraft had a bullet-shaped fuselage with a strong, sharp design for the tip and leading edges of the wings. It was designed to be launched from a rail-mounted launch pad, ignite a solid-fuel rocket, ascend under radio guidance, and ram an enemy aircraft at an altitude of 9,000 meters in just under 100 seconds. It then glided and landed, after which the rocket was replaced and it could be reused.
- The Shusui gunpowder rocket was planned to be manufactured by Kawasaki Aircraft, but the end of the war meant the project was cancelled before production could begin.
- The kit being released this time is a three-dimensional reproduction of the manned version with a cockpit, which was left as a rough sketch.
