[Actual vehicle guide]
- The EF66 was mass-produced in 1968 as a locomotive capable of pulling a 1,000-ton high-speed freight train with a maximum speed of 100 km/h, and 55 0-series locomotives were manufactured.
- From the 21st unit onwards, the front decorative band and skirt shape were changed, and a canopy was installed over the front window, resulting in a change in appearance.
- From 1985, the later models were selected to pull the Blue Train, and after the JR takeover, the No. 40 to No. 55 locomotives stationed at Shimonoseki Depot were used.
- Many of the cars that were handed over to JR Freight when the JNR was privatized were repainted in a similar style to the 100 series cars, but cars that were repainted after 2004 were repainted in a blue-based style, and cars that were repainted before that were gradually repainted.
- The last of the 0-series locomotives to undergo renovation, the No. 27, kept its JNR livery and was used to pull freight trains until 2023.
