[Actual vehicle guide]
- The Komu 1 type was introduced in 1968 as a modified Tom 50000 type for container transport on branch lines in Hokkaido, and was retired by 1977.
- In 1970, the Japanese National Railways manufactured 20ft class containers to coincide with the operation of the container train [Sanyo Liner] between Nishiokayama and Sumida River, but the increase in containers of this size was taken over by privately owned UC5 type containers.
- The R900 type container is a prototype refrigerated container made by the Japanese National Railways in 1970 to replace refrigerated cars. It was not mass-produced, and subsequent additions were made to private containers.
