[About the actual car]
Lamborghini was as popular as Ferrari during the supercar boom.
Among the many models released, including the Countach, the flagship model in the lineup from 2001 to 2010 was the Murcielago.
The Murcielago, which was unveiled at the 2001 Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany, is mid-engine and equipped with a 60-degree V12 DOHC engine mounted longitudinally.
The first model had a 6.2-liter displacement and 580 horsepower, but in 2006 it was upgraded to a 6.5-liter displacement.
The vehicle was four-wheel drive with a viscous coupling center differential, and the transmission was located in front of the engine.
The body design was handled by Luc Donckerwolke, and while inheriting Lamborghini traditions such as the adoption of doors that could be lifted forward, the car has garnered high praise as a new flagship model.
By 2010, over 4,000 units of each type had been produced.
