[About the actual machine]
The Messerschmitt Me 163 Komet was developed and deployed by the German military towards the end of World War II.
It is known as the world's first rocket-powered aircraft.
The aircraft is equipped with one Valu HWK109-509 rocket engine.
It had a top speed of 959 km/h and a climb rate of 160 m/s.
However, the tailless, mid-wing design of the aircraft made it difficult to control, and it was said that its powered flight time using its engines was only about seven minutes. After the interception, the aircraft had to glide back to base, during which time it was exposed to attacks by Allied aircraft.
The Me 163S-1 Habicht trainer was created for the purpose of landing training due to the difficulty of piloting, and was a two-seater with an instructor's seat behind the cockpit.
The engine and armament were removed and the aircraft was designed to glide as a glider.
Although no exact details remain, it is said that only one aircraft was produced.
