West Germany adopted the F-104 interceptor fighter in large numbers, valuing its bomb load capacity and low-altitude attack capabilities.
A total of 916 aircraft were operated, consisting of 749 F/RF-104Gs and the two-seat F-104.
In addition to low-altitude tactical bombing, it incorporated a unique design that allowed for the deployment of U.S.-controlled nuclear weapons and anti-ship weapons intended for use against the Soviet Navy.
However, in Germany, a mountainous region with unpredictable weather, F-104 crashes were frequent, resulting in significant losses of 292 aircraft.
As a result, the system's operation and training methods have drawn strong criticism from former ace pilots.
As a solution, a Europeanized training program was developed, primarily by officers who had raised concerns about the dangers, and efforts were made to reduce accidents.
This kit recreates the F-104G adopted by the West German Air Force.
The differences from the F-104J include a redesigned engine nozzle shape, the addition of VHF antennas to the upper fuselage and lower nose, the installation of navigation lights on the upper and lower fuselage, the replacement of the ejection seat with a Mk.GQ7, and the use of new molds to reproduce the changes in the tires.
The kit includes markings for aircraft belonging to the 33rd Fighter-Bomber Wing (JaboG33) and the 34th Fighter-Bomber Wing (JaboG34).
