Product Description
We are pleased to announce a new product from Ukraine's Drawings: the 1/48 Varty P-66 Vanguard.
The kit includes painting mask stickers, photo-etched parts, and four types of decals (two each for the Republic of China Air Force and the US Army Air Force).
When completed, it will be approximately 180mm in length and 228mm in width.
The Vanguard was a single-seat export fighter aircraft developed and manufactured by Vulty of the United States just before World War II.
The company's designation was [V-48], and the first prototype, which had a narrowed nose similar to that of a liquid-cooled engine aircraft in an attempt to reduce air resistance, made its maiden flight in September 1939.
The Swedish military ordered 144 of the aircraft, which had its nose returned to its normal configuration and was internally designated as the [V-48C], under the designation [J10]. However, the Lend-Lease Act, enacted in 1941 shortly after production of the ordered aircraft was completed, prohibited its export to Sweden.
Therefore, the U.S. military deployed approximately 50 of these aircraft as P-66s to fighter training squadrons, while the remaining approximately 100 were provided to Canada via Britain as Lend-Lease aircraft under the nickname Vanguard.
Upon its retirement in February 1942, this aircraft was to be supplied to the Republic of China Air Force, but many were lost in accidents during transport or during training, and only a small number were actually received by the National Revolutionary Army.
The aircraft deployed in combat engaged in battles with Japanese aircraft, but most were lost in Japanese air raids while parked, and were retired without achieving significant results.
