Product Description
The Wirbelwind was an anti-aircraft tank used by Germany during World War II.
The earlier mass-produced Möbelwagen had to fully open its armor plates when firing at low-flying targets, which presented challenges in ensuring crew safety.
Therefore, a new anti-aircraft tank with a rotating turret was developed and officially adopted as the Wirbelwind (meaning "whirlwind").
Like the Möbelwagen, the Wirbelwind uses the chassis of the Panzer IV, but it was not produced from scratch; instead, it was manufactured by repurposing Panzer IVs that had returned for repairs.
The main gun, the 2cm Flakvierling 38, had inferior firepower and range compared to the Möbelwagen due to space limitations within the turret. However, it had a turret that could rotate 360 degrees, and its ability to fire at low elevation angles relatively safely was an advantage over the Möbelwagen.
