The S 404 is a rear-wheel-drive off-road vehicle with a payload capacity of 1.5 tons and is the most produced type in the Unimog series.
The S 404, which was available with either an inline six-cylinder gasoline or inline four-cylinder diesel engine and two cabin types (two-door cab or two-door convertible), featured a ladder frame and two portal axles with reduction gears, similar to other Unimog models.
