[Real car]
-AC electrification of conventional lines at JNR was commercialized, and in June 1961, electrification was started up to Katsuta on the Joban Line and Kurume on the Kagoshima Main Line. Series, 421 series for 60Hz AC has appeared for Kagoshima Main Line. And the 403/423 series which improved the main motor by 20% appeared from 1965 to 1966. Only the electric car was raised in form, and the accompanying car was common with 401/421 series. After that, the 415 series equipped with a main transformer for both 50Hz and 60Hz was developed, and the expansion was shifted to the 415 series.
-The 421 and 423 series used mainly on the Kagoshima Main Line, the Nippo Main Line, and the Sanyo Main Line (Shimoseguchi) were initially non-cooled, but were later remodeled for cooling. The vehicles that were remodeled for air conditioning after the inauguration of JR used the JR Kyushu's original AC-only cooler for rooftop distribution (AU1X) and floor-standing (AU2X). From around 1985, the image was changed from the traditional maroon color to the Kyushu color with a blue band in white to enhance the image. It has been scrapped by the appearance and expansion of the 811/813 series, which is now the successor.
