- Type 9600 is a representative freight locomotive of the Taisho era, and 770 cars were manufactured between 1920 and 15. It is used all over the country except Shikoku, and is still known by the nickname of [Kyuroku]. It was used for more than 50 years due to its excellent functionality, and some were active until the end of JNR Steam in 1976. It is characterized by many variations because it was individually remodeled according to each line section.
- Unit 9633 was a famous machine used in the former NHK TV drama [Travel] while enrolled in the Otaru Chikko Engine Depot. It is currently preserved at the Umekoji Steam Locomotive Museum. This product is a prototype when the front and tender were painted in a zebra pattern during the construction of Otaru Port, and it was active for shunting.
