Product Description

- Originally a refrigerated ship ordered by the Netherlands from Poland, it was still under construction when Antwerp was occupied by the Germans in May 1940.
- Work was not resumed until 1942 due to a shortage of materials, and construction resumed as an S-boat carrier.
- Commissioned 13 May 1944.
- Named after a 19th century German explorer of Africa.
- Sunk on 15 June 1944 after being torpedoed by a Beaufighter while escorting a German convoy off the Netherlands.
