- Originally a refrigerated ship ordered by the Netherlands from Poland, it was still under construction when Antwerp was occupied by the Germans in May 1940.
- Work was not resumed until 1942 due to a shortage of materials, and construction resumed as an S-boat carrier.
- Commissioned 16 December 1943.
- Named after a 19th century German explorer of Africa.
-After the war, the British took over and renamed it [Royal Herald], and in 1950 it was transferred to Belgium and operated as a transport, training and supply ship under the name [Kamina].
- Removed from the register in 1967, dismantled the following year.
